Where the people go to see and be seen. To the west, the river rolls by, taking with it boaters, sediment, fish, and cottonwood seeds. To the east, the street carries cyclists, autonomous vehicles, dogs and their humans. Between them, an eddy, a sandbar for life or lunch, a spin on the carousel and a strolling business meeting. Down the middle of the neighborhood, a chain of ponds carried our little band of explorers out of earshot. Keepers and nets in hand, we waded for leopard frogs, painted turtles, plains garter snakes & tadpoles. Searching for the fabled ‘Big Momma’ - Bull Frog Queen of the Ponds. A land of indian paintbrush, goldenrod, rabbitbrush and yucca with waxy, white blooms. Imagine if we’d had boardwalks, bridges and overlooks…
